LASTools, developed by Martin Isenburg, is a software suite for processing ALS data. LASTools includes functionality for compression to the LAZ format, and provide good support for batch processing and scripting. LASTools also includes tools for QC of the dataset, visualizing the point cloud, deriving rasters and footprint polygons, classification, and decimation, among other essential tasks in the ALS processing pipeline. LASTools are an efficient way to work with large ALS projects, and to undertake initial processing of the dataset. Both GUI and command line interfaces are available.
